I think your imagine has it the wrong way around. Women are far more likely to criticize about appearance. And males, nerds the original outcasts of society, the inventers of comicon and primary initial cosplayers, un-adonis-eque themselves, are very accepting people.

I originally thought this image was inspired by… which it imay be, fortunately your gender agenda on this image is not supported by the authors experience. In fact common sense should tell you If anyone is doing the catty bitchy comments its women. It's a shame about the obvious bigotry as I like the Mike Judge style of this image.
On the contrary, if I ran a con and somebody showed up as Fat Wolverine, I'd turn him away.

Reminds me of guys I know. Ugly as fuck, but so shallow that they'll turn their nose up at a cute girl if she's a little bit chubby.

Great job :)

So true guys who are chubby/fat or skinny will play off thier "fail" as funny but girls get these looks like "how dare she!"

At the end of the day, cosplay is just for fun, lets not make it into "who looks most like my fantasy version of my fav character?"

oh god so true, guys can do anything and be funny and witty, girls are humiliated unless they're the perfect sex objects.

Yeah I agree, while the guys can play off their body flaws girls receive looks/statements of harsh disapproval, it's sad.
saally I thought of cosplay once and back off because I was thinking "well I'm not even chubby but a got a little belly, so I can't play as Korra (from Legend of Korra)" Korra dose not even show off her tummy but yet uneasiness kicked in for me. She dose has wash board tummy though.
So I can kind of relate to the idea of a natural social expectation/demand to look like someones "fantasy version" of thier fav character when cosplaying, instead of just having fun with it. *Shrug*

Have you even cosplay?

yeah. the sad truth is that women are expected to be beautiful and hot no matter what [mainly because we're seen as sex objects BUT THAT'S ANOTHER ESSUE LOL]

omg you should totally cosplay as korra! serously! she's so awesome, and really it's about the fun! some douchebags like these guys exist but not everyone is so stupid :D and cosplay is more about the craft and creativity and fun anyways \o people in convention are always so friendly!

i honestly don't find the expectation all that natural really :P i like creative cosplays, that try to convey how a character would look in reallife, you know? realistic version of characters, realistic costumes :3 cos i think some look too fake, bag wigs, super vibrant colours and shit, and don't go well with how real humans look LOL so answering your question, that's the kind of 'cosplay' or costumes i go for )o) i haven't done that many times, just a few, so far i've been a realistic random badass angel, i've been a realistic death note's misa, and a realistic Sandman's Death :3 all to costume parties only, except for the Misa, which i went to a convention as )o)

I get what you mean.  As for me cosplaying Korra, I will :D (Big Grin)  But I will still try to get into shap, not for shallow reasons but really it's because I love working out, my favorite workout is cross country, and there's alot of hills in my city.  Also I want to get my body back, when I was 14--20 I worked out daily, running in the hills and enjoying it, plus doing aerobics.  But for the past 4 years since I was 20 my college schudle got so choatic that only for seasons I could workout, then next season regain weight, and for so long this up and down patterns been very hard on me :| (Blank Stare)  But on a brighter note I recently graduated and with freelancing as a graphic designer, it's getting better. :D (Big Grin)

To your other response: Nice you've cosplay your own characters and known characters. Cool.  Aside from Cosplaying Korra, I want to cosplay a anthropomorphic Eeevee
Heart my fav pokemon

I saw your profil and gallery but no cosplay stuff?  But regardless I love your art, especially the Adventure Time stuff
